Dynasty Warriors 5 contine toate cele 42 de personaje jucabile din Dynasty Warriors 4 , plus inca 6 personaje noi : Guan Ping, Xing Cai, Cao Pi, Pang De, Ling Tong si Zuo Ci.
Modurile de joc sunt: Musou Mode (story mode), Free Mode si Challenge Mode. Primele 2 moduri permit conectarea a pana la doi jucatori simultan.
